Prior to the 12th General Election (GE12) on 8 March 2008, Sahabat Rakyat Working Committee (back then was Johor Bahru branch of Suaram) released a letter to the voters nationwide entitled “Vote for the opposition party to show your determination of reform; Cast spoilt vote for the ruling party to show your hatred”.
Prior to GE13 on 5 May 2013, we, together with Hindraf Johor, jointly released a letter to the votes entitled “Unite! People of Johore, Realize 3 Pressing Demands; Smash UMNO Hegemony, Form a Democratic United Front!”.
Prior to GE14 on 9 May 2018, we released a statement regarding our views on how to vote in 509 election entitled “Let's dump rubbish together on "509"! - Oppose UMNO hegemonic rule! Prevent Mahathir from returning to power!”
In September last year, we also published an important statement entitled "Say "No" to the racist hegemonic rule! Stop UMNO bullies from returning!” in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Sahabat Rakyat (2001-2021).
As one of the organizations defending and working for democracy and human rights in our country, our political stance in opposing Malay hegemonic rule by UMNO, and especially in opposing “Mahathirism” obstinately pushed by Mahathir is unequivocal and has been followed through by us.
5 Proposals For Voting
For this upcoming GE15, we do not want to repeat our elaborated views, we just would like to humbly put forward the following recommendations to rakyat of Malaysia:
1. Reject candidates from mono-ethnic parties!
2. Reject candidates who advocate the "Bumiputera Supremacy" or "Malay Privilege"!
3. Reject candidates with extreme religious beliefs!
4. Reject candidates with extreme racial ideology!
5. Reject candidates committing crimes such as corruption, breach of trust, abuse of power!
2 Options Post-GE15
It is hoped that voters of all ethnic groups in the country free themselves from the manipulation of those power-obsessed and ambitious politicians who are pursuing self-interest and their servitors, be independent and use their political wisdom to elect Members of Parliament (MPs)/Members of Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUNs) who can be trusted and entrusted, and urge these MPs and ADUNs, to fight for the common interests and long-term aspirations of the people of all ethnic groups with determinations. The available options are as follows:
(1) When the democratic and progressive forces are yet strong enough, form a united front of opposition parties (at federal/state level), which relies solidly on the strengths of the lower classes of all ethnic groups, and strive to abolish the existing social system that “divides the bumiputera and non-bumiputera” (which is clearly based on racial discrimination).
(2) When the democratic and progressive forces are strong enough, form a democratic coalition government (at federal/state level), gradually abolish all kinds of policies with racial discrimination within a certain timeline, instead of just being a so-called "good governance government" preached by some people.
There has never been any "Superhero" in the world, only the oppressed people can save themselves!
